We have operated as a Scaffolding Hire Company in Frome for over twenty years. I’m Jack Cornish. I started working in Scaffolding Hire in 2004 and have created two passionate businesses. I began at Cornish Services, where we provided scaffolding solutions for all the local businesses in the Frome and Bath areas before branching out nationally, working with large corporations to offer scaffolding hire for solar installations on commercial buildings. This year, I decided to rebrand Cornish Services into The Scaff Co. to sit alongside my other business, The Scaff Shop. Now we have two companies that complement themselves well whilst also maximising the longevity of our products by giving them another lease of life through furniture. This has helped upcycle most of our products, and we are doing our bit to help become a more sustainable business.
We have worked on many scaffolding hire installations in Frome and on projects for the Frome Town Council. We love to work with small businesses based in Frome, as we are located in Wallbridge Buildings (BA115JZ) near the local ASDA store. Watching Frome grow into the great town it has become has been a pleasure; we love seeing it grow and evolve. Our staff are based in Frome, so we try to provide local people with job opportunities. What is the cost of Scaffolding Hire?
Honestly, this all depends on a few different factors. Our charges are based on project time, ranging from the length of hire to installation time. For example, how easy is the access to install the Scaffolding? We have had jobs where trucks had no access, so our team has had to physically carry the equipment to the site after parking our trucks as close as possible. This takes time, rather than having our trucks parked outside. Please speak to us, about your requirements. We will come out to view the proposed project, offer any insights we have from the knowledge we have gained and also come up with a bespoke design from our software for you to view. There is an excellent chance it will be an extremely competitive quote that will be hard to beat as we love working in and around the Frome area.
Do you offer discounts for long-term hire?
We understand that some projects are not simple, and complications can occur that can cause delays. We are able to offer really good scaffold hire prices based on long-term hire. We have built great relationships with our customers over the years and will always look after them as they look after us!
How long does it take to put scaffolding up?
Great question. For example, a typical two-bedroom semi-detached house would take our team of three around five hours to create a scaffolding system from floor to roof, whereas a five-bedroom house could take eight to twelve hours. (Pretty Quick you think) Yes. But this is not including everything that goes on before and after erecting the project! There is quite a bit of organising for the project prior to erecting. We have to visit the site and evaluate all risks and methods, arrange permits and make sure it is safe to install, as well as check all access points for the HGV. Once this has been signed off, we then have to set the guys up, and make sure they have all the relevant information to carry out the project. Then the labour starts. From loading up the lorry, then the travel, then the erecting. Once the project is signed off and safe to use, we then have the maintenance of the project. Health & Safety legal requirements are to have the scaffold inspected every 7 Days and signed off. Once you have finished with the scaffolding, we then come back to dismantle and remove. It’s a bit of a process but all of this will make a streamlined service!
Scaffolding rules and regulations
As mentioned, we have been working in this industry for a long time and have gained a lot of experience. We are fully insured and accredited, which gives both The Scaff Co and the customer peace of mind with any work undertaken. There are many variables with scaffolding. Some we can control, and some we can’t (the weather). However, we do our best to assess all eventualities when we enter and erect a project. It is of the utmost importance that our staff and customers are safe, and the training our staff have been on, supports the level of quality we endeavour to offer.

Passionate, knowledgeable, and friendly, most of our staff have been with the company or have worked in Scaffolding for the past ten years, receiving ongoing training, as their skills and knowledge advance. For example, Jack Cornish, Director and fully qualified to the highest standard being Advanced Scaffolder qualified, along with SSTS and can actually send an email too! Lee Withers, our Scaffold Manager, is fully equipped, like a scaffold swiss army knife, has just completed his telehandler license and also Part 2 scaffolder qualified as well as SSTS.
